I fixed my car.
Turns out it was the Crankshaft Position Sensor. I replaced it. It ran for a while and then stopped running properly. After pulling and cleaning the manifold, injectors, and anything else I thought it might be, I got it running poorly. Yay me. Eventually I figured out that I had routed the CPS wire next to the water pump pulley. Turns out wires don't work too good when they are cut.
Fixed the wire. Routed it behind the coolant hoses. Car started perfectly. Only it misfired. Wouldn't build power past 4000 RPM. It ran remarkably smooth though, so initially I had no clue. Did a compression test, when I pulled plug #2, it was covered in soot. Running rich. Replaced wires, checked distributor, checked fuel pressure regulator. Did not fix. Pulled the injectors. Again. Turns out #2 was damaged. Missing a metal nipple at the very tip. Replaced the injectors with a set of Gen III injectors I had laying around. Car runs great now. Builds power past 4000 RPM.
So yeah, PSA time: Route your Crankshaft position sensor wire behind the coolant hoses, otherwise you will spend six months chasing red herrings.
wonder where the little metal thing wound up.....

I mean, I'm hoping it broke off with the pintle cap. That would mean it fell into the manifold, which means it would have come out of the manifold when I cleaned it.
