Hi there,
Haven't posted here for a long time, car has been sitting for more than three years but finally starting to get it ready to go back on the road.
I now also have a chance to buy a complete NOS M30 cruise control set and was wondering whether there were many differences compared to what's in an M635CSi or M6.
I imagine the connection to the throttle linkage would definitely be different, probably some mounting brackets as well.
Does anyone have some experience with retro fitting such a set on an M88/3 - M635CSi?
Would the M88/3 specific bits and brackets still to be found anywhere still? From what I see on BMW Classic's online parts shop, only the clutch switch and column stalk are still available for order.
Any pointers would be much appreciated!
I actually have a few S38 parts left over from the one I parted out. I can tell you for sure that the throttle is different, LOL.
Just kidding. I might still have the original bracket. It is certainly different than the M30 part, but the mounts are the same sort of rubber bung plug. I'd presume the actual CC cable is a different length either before or after the bracket, but it's likely that another model was fitted with a proper cable. I'd start with parts diagrams for the E34 M5, since that uses the same actuator and a near-identical motor.
Later BMW CC cables used a different throttle fastener and mount. I believe the plugs are also different, although the actuator looks the same mechanically. It's unlikely that an M5x or or M4x unit would work for you.
You might have to take the M30 bowden cable to a bike shop to have them modify the cable end, ferrules or jacket, but I don't see why it couldn't work with a little craftsmanship.
Thanks for your insight! That might prove very helpful indeed.
Parts, if specific for the M6(35CSi), are certainly no longer available. Same story for E28 M5 or E30 M3.
I have bought the set and will see what can be used or not. The bits where it hooks up to the throttle and the specific brackets might hopefully be found through parts cars.
Do you think you might part with what you have left? Or is nothing left related to cc?

The S38B35 had originally been transplanted from an M5, no CC parts were installed. I do have a few S38 bits left over but they're mostly little stuff like brackets. I'll toss up some pics later.
