    95 Bmw 540i dies when put in reverse sometimes.

    Dies and will start right back up like nothing happened.

    The first step in diagnosing a problem is to scan the engine computer (DME in BMWspeak) and the automatic transmission computer (EGS) for codes. The service engine soon (SES) light is on only when an emissions related code is present.
