    General module rebuild

    Hi from Spain!

I am looking for somebody who can change capacitors from my '90 e31 general module. Anybody knows?

It is a fairly simple repair for someone who knows how to work on circuit boards. If you can remove the general module, you can take it to a local electronics repair facility and ask them to replace the capacitors. I would go somewhere that repairs audio equipment and televisions not a place that fixes phones. A good shop will have the capacitors you need in stock. Just tell them you want high temperature capacitors.

juanko -- it would be best for you to send "EEDegreeToDrive" a private message (PM) and coordinate with him that way. You can link to him from post #5 in this thread.

Juan-- Your module is back in the mail.. Apparently, shipping to Puerto Rico is exactly the same as shipping to any other US territory

...And a big thank you to Sniff38 and all the other folks that point everyone in my direction for their GM repairs. I've probably done close to 100 of these modules by now! Thanks again!

send him a PM when you got enough posts, PM function is not yet available for you, needs some more posts.
For which model do you want a repair? AFIK he is specialized on E31 GM modules which are new pretty expensive new and used, for other modules you probably get a cheap used one. Post in the parts wanted section with exact details for which model and what p/n your present GM has.

Thanks @shogun and everyone else for constantly recommending me for folks' GM needs. I'm not working on my E31 much these days (I still have my '91 850i as of 5/2022), but for various modules, Yes, I still do them, and generally keep enough parts on hand for modules that show up at my door randomly. If you DM me on here, I get an email and usually get back fairly quick. I primarily stick with the E31 modules, as Shogun said, the E31 module is unique, not as common, getting more expensive, and worse yet, finding a garage that can still program the modules can be challenging. It's also important to remind folks that a random used GM from EBay will probably just be an old module with similar issues, and there's a fair chance it's not coded the same as your car's options, so could result in less desirable effects.

    Thanks again!

Yeah-- I still do them-- for the 8-series, and E32. I can probably do the GM for the 3-series, but may have to buy parts if I don't have the correct ones.

As Arthur posted his phone number in the forum (something generally frowed upon for obvious reasons) he got several messages from folks claiming to be Scott.
FWIW-- I'm Scott-- My number is 607-xxx-xxxx and I've got an email address sdxxxxxxxx@gmail.com that I generally use for correspondence.
Apparently there's another 'Scott' or someone claiming to be Scott that addressed Arthur with a 410 number.

Can a @mod clean that up and delete his number. Thanks!

phone number deleted. NOTE: Never post phone numbers, email addresses or other contacts in the forum, only by PM, internet spiders and spammers/scammers are crawling the forums for such info.
Also make sure you have a safe and good password, there were attacks on many forums worldwide recently to get such info, read this https://www.zdnet.com/article/these-...r-next-victim/
