E36 key coding

Hey all, any advice here? Working on an e36, car was running badly and I found the only key we had would start the car but the fob didn’t lock or unlock it but the key would lock/unlock all doors manually in the drivers door.

Scanned for errors, oxygen sensor was replaced - reset adaptations and when to start it... fired and stalled (expected) fires again but stalled... then would only crank. Strange... so I scanned the EWS and found key code password errors...

Any advice? EWS sync start values? BMW want $450 I’m told for a new key.

I can't help with your mechanical issues, but I just paid ~$160 for a replacement key from a BMW dealership, shipped from the mainland.

I hear that BMW will cut you a key and program it using your VIN once you provide a letter and proof of ownership.

BMW Darwin want $450.

Seems high.

I was off a few dollars, with a '10OFF' code at thebmwministore.com, the cost with shipping was $166US.
