    Bike racks

What are our options with roof rails? I keep coming up empty handed, when looking for bike racks for touring rails.

Are you talking about the crossbar or the bike attachment itself?

I've seen plenty of racks that mount to the roof. But, I'm looking for something that will use the existing roof rails.. If that even exists. I've looked at realoem... But nothing seems to be available.

I think I understand. I have Thule aeroblade cross bars mounted to my rails with *i think* are called "Rapid railing" towers/feet.

I work at a German auto body shop, I had a totaled Audi Q5 with the Audi roof racks that grab onto the rails, very similar to our E39T roof rails. Owners came and got their stuff, before the tow truck came for the car, I snagged them. The rack bar is longer, I have to cut it short, drill 3 holes for the bolts that bolt it to the anchors. I know it will work just fine, just have not done it yet. Really don’t have a reason to use them just yet anyways, I’m no poser... Building a custom downhill mountain bike, when that’s done, I’ll do the racks and look into Thule or Yakima for the bike mount.

I got some universal 48" cross rails for the wagon that fit great, and grip pretty well. So far, no complaints. I only transported my bike a few miles to my new place so I wasn't able to really give it a good haul. We are going on a road trip this weekend, and I will be bringing the bikes so it will be a good test to see how the cross bars/bike racks hold up.

I have Yakima towers attached to the factory roof rails and then round bars attached to the towers and the bike rack attached to the round bars. It works great, just lots of wind noise. There are aero bar options but they cost more and the wind noise make my car sound haunted which is cool :-)
