The engine crank but it does not start

    Hello,
I have a problem that now lasts 7 months,
    I have a 2004 E46 325xi with an M54 engine
I drove quietly when I saw the light check engine light up, then what was expected to see the mechanic in the following week I did not pay much attention, I do not use the car too much more so here are 4 or 5 days after I stopped on a red light and when to leave, nothing! so then that it is manual, I thought of a bad maneuver, so I tried again started, it started but no reaction when I accelerated then the engine stopped.

I went to a mechanic who told me that he did not find the signal from the computer but in addition it is zero in programming,
So then I'm doing pretty well in IT I decided to do it myself and then it did not look complicated
    I have:
    - Buy a DME MS43 (already replacing the DME I could see that the temperature indicator worked)

Then it started, I decided to move the car because it was a long time since it was parked, everything went well and I stopped the engine.
So I tried to turn it back on but nothing, it was the same thing before the change of the DME box but unlike I could see the temperature so the DME works; everything became complicated right now.

I went to read here and there on the internet, we talked about the PMH and AAC sensors, so I decided to change them

    - AAC and PMH sensor replaced but no solution, the car still does not start

So so disappointed that I dropped for a moment and then a day through YouTube, I saw a person solve the problem by synchronizing the DME and EWS with BMW Scanner,
I ordered it and once arrived, after installation to the pc, I started the scan and finally press to read DME EWS sync code (just that) and I tried to start (it started) then, I decided to go out for a ride, so far everything is going well, back home I stop the engine and guess what? it will not start anymore!

I left a few days and I think it starts but with the same symptom, once you stop the engine nothing, it does not start.
(in all cases the engine runs but does not start)

I thought it could be the relay of the fuel pre-pump, I changed but still nothing, it does not start.

I scanned again with BMW Scanner, I had that

Another thing, I noticed that the DME wine is different from that of the EWS since the change of the DME (but it had even begun) the seller of the DME tells me that the wine is not a problem on this model ( E46 2004 engine M54 DME MS43) but earlier wine cluster and ews

It does not start or very rarely when it wants and I do not know what to do.
    Help me please

have you checked fuel pressure? Sounds like you are way overthinking a simple issue. You dont have any current EWS/immobilizer related codes in that list, so there is likely no issue with that system. Also that error 00 tells me perhaps the DME you have has the EWS deleted.

The DME's in these cars almost never fail unless they are subjected to external elements(water, fire, etc).

Put your old DME back in and check basics: fuel pressure and sparks. Also, scan your old DME with INPA to see why you got the CEL in the first place.

    Thank you for the answer;
No, the ews is not removed, I can access it works without problems, I have with me the old DME, which does not respond, once it plugs the temperature indicator goes up to the max it is who indicates that he is dead. How do I do for fuel pressure?

    Thank you for the answer,
The old one (DME) does not work anymore, that's why I bought another one, because then it did not answer according to the mechanic, could I scan anyway? and what is CEL?

I suspect the EWS is not allowing the car to start. More info here: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...-DME-to-an-E46

Either try to get the EWS module and keys that matched the DME or re-program the DME to match your original EWS; but that could be tricky. See above link for more info.

Another option I found somewhere is to de-solder and swap the EEPROM chips on both DMEs so your new DME has the settings from the old DME.

    So I have 3 options
    1. Align DME EWS, to get there I will:
at. Change the (VIN) of the replaced DME to match the EWS (original) with INPA and WinFKP
    b. I will align DME EWS always with INPA
    2. Put the old EEPROM chip to the replaced DME
    3. Buy DME EWS and Key to change the three

    That's it?

The DME's in these cars almost never fail unless they are subjected to external elements(water, fire, etc).
the guy who sold me the (DME) just told me that it does not need to be synchronized, it's a DME bypass, I do not know what to think, no error message in connection with the startup, does a DME bypass have a special method to work?

He probably meant EWS bypass as i previously said. Thats the only possible way it would work without syncronizing. Ive also only ever seen error 00 on DME's that have had this done. You can still talk to the ews module because it is still in your car, but the DME isnt using it.

You need to step back and check the basics. You are making this much more complex then it is. Check your fuel pressure. EWS related issues will throw codes in the DME. Since you dont have these codes you dont have an EWS problem.

If the guy who sold you the DME told you that it has EWS bypassed, I would try to disconnect the EWS unit and instead I would put a 30-AMP fuse in the car-side connector to the EWS (there are only 2 pins on one edge of the connector where it can fit so you can not miss), then try to start. If it does not, try EWS-DME sync in the diagnostic system and do the test again. The problem might be, that in the DME there can be an EWS emulator installed and if the next EWS is connected, the ECU sees two EWS system active, getting two different codes on one wire, which is a huge mess. In some cases, the EWS-DME sync causes the engine to start once and the re-start is not possible then.

EDIT: Also, seeing your DTC list, it is possible that just the EWS fault code is suppressed in the DME program. This means, the EWS fault is there but not appearing in the DTC list. This is often done by changing "whatever the fault code you want to get rid of" to 0. This is why I am suspicious, because the DTC for DME is "00". Anyway, the fault code 00 as stated in the post prior to mine also is frequently seen on MS43 EWS delete mods.

If you are not too afraid, you also could read a full flash from the old DME, backup the new DME and transfer the data from old DME to it. You only would need a bunch of wires and a DC 12V/1A power supply. And of course not to be too scared.

Can you explain in detail how to disconnect ews? the guy who sold me the dme told me to take the power that comes from the switch, connect it to the ews # 1 wire and change the immobilizer fuse for 10A; the problem is that I do not understand his explanation well. Can you explain it better?

    EWS3.3 Fuse.jpg
Your car has EWS3. If you unplug the connector from the EWS unit, look inside of the connector on the harness. On one side there are 2 wide pins. Take a fuse (10A, 30A, whatever) and put it in the connector to the only place where it fits - on the wide contacts. Once you take a look at the connector physically, you will know. See in the picture. Once you have plugged the fuse in the connector, try to start the car.

The only thing you do making this connection is leaving the EWS system unplugged while ignition switch is connected directly to the starter engage wire.

EDIT: Seeing the VIN in the DME I see very clearly that there is immo off done as it comes from the free files from MS43wiki. This means, the EWS delete should be done properly. If there are no fault codes, doing the trick with the 30A fuse should work. There only is one question and that is, if trying to sync EWS to DME would do any change to the program part of the DME, and this way if it would not enable the EWS again. I did not test this but if you were out of ideas, I can test it as I have a car with the very same software on my yard daily. It is a car of my colleague from work and we are testing some things on his MS43 every week so there definitely will be an opportunity to try it.
