    Glovebox, Seriously?

Another #$%&% thread on glove box latch? I hate being that guy, but I've rebuilt cylinder heads, bottom ends and complete engines only to be stymied by a Teutonic glove box latch. I've searched, I've pulled on the cable I've punched, kicked, cussed and thrown many a tool to no avail. I'm already humiliated and felling pretty stupid so be gentle. My options as I see them: 1) disassemble from below, just removing screws until it falls apart 2) grab the latch and apply linear loading until material failure. For the record I've only owned the car a few weeks and love it otherwise. Thanks all, s.

Double check and make sure it is not locked? If it is unlocked the handle should move at that point you could break it and pull the cable. Remember to hold the sleeve when you pull the cable. The latch itself is made of metal hooks and bars you may tear the dash apart before it lets go.

I spent more time fixing my glovebox than on my timing chain guide replacement.

I just don’t get it. I have opened my glove box a total of 5 times in 8 years of ownership. It works perfectly I guess because I don’t touch it. What are y’all doing in the glovebox ferchrisake? And if I breaks why not empty it and permanently close it? What am I missing?

The glove box handle is like the CEL on an e38. If the glove box handle is not broken and the CEL is not on your car will never run smoothly!

Thank you @acspecialists. When is it locked? Key slot vertical or horizontal?

Take that back!! As of today at 9:47:00 pm, I have no CEL light and my glovebox is working! Now tomorrow that could be different of course...

I bet it's not holding the position when you are pulling it out though...

Victory! It’s open and the latch is in pieces on passenger floor board. Thanks all.
