I searched a few threads on this topic not much information on removing it. Any insight? I removed the 3 17 mm bolts on the transmission side I’m stuck on the next step. The 3 remaining bolt that hold the giubo just spin the driveshaft if I try to remove them.

Have you tried putting it in gear and then removing them? I know thats the way it was on my rear diff drive shafts.

The remaining bolts are connected to the front differential. This diff is an open diff. You need to get the remaining bolts off to do this. Even then it's a tight fit to remove the guibo. Use a second wrench on one of the bolts to lock the flange in place.

I'm not sure what you have planned, but here's a few tips. Be sure to grease the splines on the front shaft where it enters the transfer case on assembly. Use a good moly-sulfide grease. If you're replacing the transfer case seals on the front shaft. There are 2 identical ones that go in. Take the spring off the outer seal. Insert them so the sealing faces touch each other.

Thanks you very much for you help I got the bolts off now I’m in the process of taking off the front shaft I wanted to replace the guibo because it never has been replaced before my E30 is under a complete over haul. Plus I want to remove the front shaft so I can gain better access to the transmission cooling hose nut that’s above the shaft that’s been leaking.

Looking at the pictures, I saw the seals are installed the reverse of what I said. I went back and checked my references and saw that yours are installed correctly. My memory was wrong. Insert them so the sealing faces touch each other. I've corrected my post.

Front drive shaft out splines look good will get them serviced by a local shop for reconditioning. Guibo looks in good condition however it’s the OG one from 89 I will be replacing it.

I'm just here to say I like that you spelled it "giubo." Bonus points.

I have to lube the splines on my front driveshaft. I also have a replacement guibo. I just want to confirm, for removal you just undo all six bolts at the front, remove the guibo and you can then just pull the shaft towards the front of the car and it'll come out? Does that plastic collar dust cover thing simply slide out of the way if you want to see what your doing?

Undo all 6 bolts. Push the shaft further into the transfer case. That will open a gap big enough to take the disc out. Then you can slide the shaft forward and take it out.

Simple enough. Thanks!
