I thought the (EWS?) antenna on the ignition lock started with the 1996 model year. I went to my dealer and ordered a new cylinder without ever looking at what the car had. When the non EWS part came in I had what I expected to receive. But, when I took my 1995 840 ignition switch out it has the antenna on it. Hard to believe BMW missed this when using the serial number of the car to make me a matching ignition lock. Will take it back to the dealer tomorrow. Is there anything special I need to know to get the correct ignition lock.
Take them your old one.
I took a few pictures of my existing lock while I had it out but I needed to move the car so reinstalled. Hope pics are enough.
8eights-nice to see your mention of owning a 69 Camaro. I have one of those in many many pieces. Been in storage for years. Never have the time to restore it but will one day.
Sell it to me,)
Does your antenna not just fit to the new cylinder?
This one is the new lock cylinder from BMW.

This is the lock cylinder in the car.

They are really not related to one another except that they both fit the same key.
Sorry eights-I still have a dream of finishing the Camaro
EWS = 01/1995 production
take the antennae ring off the old lock, it is not part of the "lock cylinder"
but you need part #32321092780, not #32321156757
...and yes, the dealer certainly should have known this.

Interesting note - 32321092780 was the original part number the dealer was trying to order. Their computer system specifically stated "not to be ordered by US dealerships". They are calling Germany to sort this out.
Here's how to do it (the antenna is a separate part):

Thanks Timm. It was your site that convinced me that I should not ignore the spinning tumbler!
I have installed the new lock cylinder. Odd that the cylinder is very smooth operation before it is installed but a little rough once in. In the starting direction it is just a bit solid/stiff but when returning to 0 position the 1 to 0 move is much stiffer. I assume this is a tolerance stack up. I tried a small amount of dielectric grease with no change. If anyone happens to know exactly which part I should file a tiny bit that would be nice. Otherwise it will remain as is and I will hope that it never over stresses the tiny pot metal tab and forces me to buy another.
That could be the interlock cable that runs from the shifter to the lock mechanism - it can be adjusted at the shifter - here's the routine:
