BM53 Aux option not working, Help!

I recently upgraded my BM53 with one that supports AUX and Satellite radio. My car is a 2002 525iT and does not have DSP or the 6 disk CD changer.

Since I have factory navigation and my car has a 11/01 build date, I had to run the oem aux cable to the C connector on the radio in the back of the car.
I have the correct pin connectors plugged into ports 3, 4, and 10.

However, when I click mode on my Nav, AUX does not pop up. Need HELP!

    I’ve tried:
Resetting the radio through the Nav
    Swapping between MK3/ MK4 Nav
    Unplugging battery
    Checking connectors

    Thanks!
    Andy

If I understand you correctly you have purchased an OEM AUX cable that contains the required resistor but the AUX option still does not appear?

If you have the correct cable and it is correctly plugged in, the system will automatically detect and display.

If you still have your old BM53, I am in need of one.

That is a capable unit. Is the Aux kit you bought genuine BMW or one of the aftermarket ones? I have heard some of them don't work properly.

Second thing is did you buy the proper Nav spec aux cord or the Non-nav spec? The connector is the same, but the pinouts are different.

I bought the one with the 3 pins. I installed it the same way e39 source did theirs.

It came Without the black connector which is not needed.

Hmm. If it came without the black connector, how are you connecting it to the BM53?

That black connector is needed and since you used a Non-Nav spec Aux cord, you MUST repin the connector as per #14 in their DIY.

I've had both plugs in my hand at one point, pins are arranged differently.

Once I get back to my laptop, I’ll post the screenshot.

I have them plugged into the C connector to pins 3,4,10. Ryan takes his connector apart to do so.

Not sure if this will be helpful or not...
"Okay... Here's what I'm being lead to believe. The software version doesn't quite matter. What matters is the manufacturing date.

There's a bit on the sticker where it says "MANUFACTURED:" and then gives a date, month, and then a "1W" or "AP."

It appears as though none of the units with "AP" marked on them were a software version 42, so they appear to be from newer vehicles (at least from what I've found.) Also, units with software version 40 come on "1W" units, but don't appear to have AUX input capabilities.

Simply put, you need a unit with "AP" on it and not "1W." Software version doesn't matter.

I can back this up, too. The original post has a "AP" unit going in, and it worked.
This video from E39Source also shows him replacing a software version 50 "1W" unit with a SV 40 "AP" unit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_GL-gqBUXM "

Good information, I’ll check my PN again! As far as I know it came out of an 06 M3.

So I'm looking at this unit. I don't see AP or 1W: https://www.ebay.com/i/132650703672?chn=ps

Updated the MK4 to V32. NO BUENO. My next step would be to add a CD changer.

I made a DIY guide video for the factory BMW aux kit, there are quite a few comments about people with aftermarket aux kits (knock off of the OEM version?) not being able to get it working. I think OEM is the key, it's only $34 currently.

I did the exact same thing you did except my radio is in the trunk. I bought the cable straight from the dealership.

I'm going to exchange it for another tomorrow to see if the cable was defective. It actually came without the black housing and the instructions had some coffee stains on it lol.
