Question Removing the ABS fuse causes ABS light on dash?

My HVAC is stuck on high, and as such I often take out the fuse on mild days when it's not needed.

The other day I mistakenly pulled the fuse for the ABS system while the car was running. This caused the ABS light to come on and it hasn't gone away since my mistake... is there any way to reset this warning light? Did I actually damage something?

I've also got an SRS light stuck on from the time I had to move my car with the cluster removed... But that appears to be an easy fix http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/1265552

Thank you guys for your input!!

I hope it will work to reset the SRS light without tool, I copied that from the E31 forum, for some it works, for others not. If not, you need a reset tool which works on the older cars like the SIR3 or BOA I sold, unfortunately sold out. That tool works on all BMW from 1987 -2000/3 (SIR3) and the BOA works from 1987 - 2006. The Peake SRS tool as well as the cheap Chinese made B800 work only from built year 1994/5 >.
Maybe the ABS fault has to be reset with a tool like the Peake fault code tool, or just disconnecting the battery for some time (?)

Unfortunately that procedure didn't work to get rid of the SRS light. Is there any way without a diagnostic tool to shut off the ANTILOCK light?

Try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes, but before you do that, make sure you know how to set time and date on the OBC, have the radio code, have the code for an aftermarket antitheft system etc.
Sometimes you find in the auction houses used PEAKE RESEARCH R5/FCX-3 BMW RESET AND SCANNER DIAGNOSTIC TOOL at reasonable prices.
For the SRS light, either someone in the US lends you his SIR3 tool or BOA, or someone near you has a suitable pc with the fitting software. I still have one BOA reset tool here on stock, but sending it to USA on loan for just 1 reset is too time consuming

I would do the hard reset on the car for the ABS light.
The SRS light will have to be done at the dealer or with the tool that Shogun mentioned. I think the dealer charges $80 or so, mines been on but will be taking it to the dealer soon.

Well I'll be darned, the fuse for the ABS was blown!! I performed the reset procedure leaving the positive/negative wires touching overnight, and it didn't clear either light. So I checked the fuse once again, and found the 7.5amp had a hairline crack that I overlooked.

ABS down, now to that pesky SRS light... the stealership wanted $160 to spend 10 minutes hooking up their diagnostic system and clearing it with a click of a button. I don't know what I expected.. but not highway robbery

rjk750: your car is a 1995 E38 740i, for that model there are scanners and SRS reset tools available, but not for E32 built from 1986 - 1994, for example the Peake SRS tool does not work on E32, same with the chinese B800, no chance, I tested it. The B800 for <$30 works on your E38.
