So I am swapping in an M52 ( blown cyl #1)
Check the wiring harness on new engine and I find an additional wire on the new motor which is not on the old motor!
It is in the bundle with the front set of O2 sensors - and Auto trans cables (two connectors to the trans).
The wire in question is the shielded cable with Yellow and Black wire inside + Shield.
As you can see in the photo the PO ripped off the connectors for the O2 sensors - no issue there I can reconnect easily.
This is the bundle which leads back to the trans if that helps - This additional wire i have no idea where it goes and does not exist or the removed engine .
Looking at the ETM but I am lost to identify where it might connect to.
Any ideas fellows? I am dropping the new motor in this weekend.
Maybe just tape it off and see if the motor starts? All else looks good except this unknown wire.
Thanks

This car is AWESOME !!!
Only wires from the harness that head back that way are O2s, fuel pressure regulator, reverse light and auto tranny. Was the harness from an auto tranny????

My 97 has a tube (vac line?) to the FPR next to the tranny under that heat shield- I don't recall an electrical connection right there but I will look again.
Thanks[/QUOTE]
You'll see it when you pull the cover. As long as the rest of the engine harness is there the missing auto line should not matter. Just leave the trans computer attached if you have it.
there is this connector near the fuel filter does anyone know what it is for or what it connects to ?
Is it related to my unknown wire ?

That's the fuel pressure regulator. Yes, that plugs into the very harness plug your describing.
Thanks there were only two unknowns I had the FPR and the reverse light switch
I will double check the ETM wire color codes to make certain I have the right ones going to the proper place
I think it strange one of them had two conductors with a shield. Go figure
