Wondering how yall feel about it?.......
is it a bit tight and mickey mouse ish?.....like a big ax course?
thinking of instructing there....
My impression is there are several "southeast" configurations so it will depend on which version they're running. I went there once relatively early in my HPDE days. The NASCAR banking was sorta neat but the course beat the hell out of the cars. The transition from banking down to infield was very abrupt and there were sort of odd humps and bumps where the various in-field roads crossed over one another. Overall the track is sorta meh but I'd go again if it were very convenient.
See my post and video here: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...7#post29245257
its been redone...so u mighta gone too many yrs ago to know wazzup now.......
current SE has no banking
suuuure.........u were a big help....thnx
Honestly,,, I think they completely f'd up Pocono when they did the multi million dollar repave and restructured all the infield courses.
Yes they added curbing, thats a plus, but man they dropped the ball on everything else. The seams and transitions are beyond terrible.
They should have sued their paving contractor. Anywhere one configuration crosses another there is a seam or a jump.
Almost any transition from Tri-Oval to infield is bone jarring. Like crushing.
I have broken something on my car every single time I have gone there since the repave. I wont go anymore and Pocono is 35 minutes from my house.
In my early years I had over 100 track days there it was co convenient,,, and I have not gone in ages unless I need to test something quick and easy.
There are (I think) over 17 or 18 possible new configurations since the repave but about 3 are worth a shit. They completely ruined the East course which was my very favorite course there.
Some of those South-East versions are like autocrosses with 2 straightaways connecting them.
As you can tell,,, Im no longer a fan,,, and I was Pocono's biggest cheerleader back when I first started.

When was the repave? I was there May of 2016. Trying to figure out if I was there before or after the repave.
That was after, its been at least 4 years I think, probably longer.
If there was curbing in the infield it was post repave.
In the old days each of the three infield road courses used a portion of the tri-oval.
There was no way to run there without touching the tri-oval. Now they can.

JP........good 2 c your input.
I used to love it and I drove 2 hrs each way in the trak car........East was awesome yes
i cant recall but the layout where I came in off the oval and had a sweeping rt into infield was amazing.....so fast
ok I guess I wont go then...
I trust u
I think thats the first place we ever met, you had the Z Coupe then right? I practically used to get my mail there I was at Pocono so much.
I think you are talking about the North course,,, the right off the tri-oval into North infield was a very exciting turn, actually it was fun on the old South course as well if running the old south course Counter,,, coming off the tri-oval into the infield was fun. Now its like crashing the car. The South counter clockwise is currently the best / smoothest. The north one is like a jump.
I'm really sad they fkd that place up like they did.
I appreciate that they put money into it, which Doc never ever put so much as a dollar into the infield road courses that they did not absolutely have to,,, but man did they do a bad job of it.
I believe part of the story is NASCAR is part to blame,,, the horrible transitions from infield to tri-oval are being blamed on the required surface for NASCAR approved barriers.

yup......i ran the z coupe then...still have her
anyhew its a shame...loooved that place.
Im 50 mi from LRP Im there 15x per season
I think the transitions are dependent upon the quality of your dampers. I just ran North course 15 days ago and while there was a bump, I didn't have any problems with the transition. Others had to swing wide to minimize the bump. I know someone who has driven a modern MCS car and an identical except rebuilt older JRZs and he said there is a night and day difference.
The point is,,, you shouldnt need $4000 worth of shocks to make a race track tolerable.
They should have done a better job paving it.
Watkins Glen,,, Summit Point,,, VIR,,, Pitt Race,,, dont need $4000 shocks to be tolerable.
They did a bad job paving it, the track was better before. There were no "bumps".

I was scraping my x brace off the ground on the north course transition a couple weeks ago. If you slow a tad or move to the left a bit, it’s not as bad of a bump. Wish it was smooth because you could probly take it flat.
