E65 Engine mount replacement

Hi Is there a writeup on a DIY engine mount replacement for a 2002 E65 745I .

unbolt the mounts, lift the engine, remove the mount, install new mount, lower engine, tighten bolts. You can do both sides at once, or one side at a time. Lift the engine just enough to slide the old one out and the new one in.

Arg. Tried today, all fasteners are easy to get to but the mounts just won’t come out—raised motor until the top of the intake touched the firewall. No dice... I can get them out of position but not out of the car. Any additional pointers?

Subframe needs to be lowered.

Crap. That will likely mean engine support bar vs floor jack like I had it (only ~$50, but yet another thing to buy). Part of me wants to just pull the nose off the car, and pull the motor/trans as a unit, and do a bunch of maintenance all at once (clean up and reseal all the hard to reach stuff. But would have to be over several days and there’s not enough room at my current house...

I just learned the part of the firewall the intake hits can be removed... wish I’d have known yesterday, though I suppose I should have looked harder. Will try again next weekend hopefully

Removed the cowl/firewall thingie and tried again today. Was able to lift the motor roughly an inch higher but accessories & steering rack are still in the way on both sides. PS pump on driver side, not sure if that's the ac comp on the pass side.

Likely possible by by pulling more stuff but conversely dropping the subframe might actually be easier. Put the job off again as I wasn't prepared to get into it as deep as looks necessary.

Just to close the book on this---I finally got back around to this and completed the job. Unbolted mounts, Jacked the motor up, unbolted the subframe, left bolts on one side several turns in, completely removed on the side I was working on. Drivers side was the PITA, actually unbolted the steering rack to column slip joint and pulled it out that way. Was still super tight. Passenger side was way easier. But the subframe definitely has to come down.
