    91 M70 Engine Mounts

Replacing the engine mounts on my car while I work on other problems it has had over the last year. The passenger side Top mount is being blocked by the compressor even a shallow 17mm Socket will not fit on the nut. Do you have to remove the AC compressor when replacing the passenger side or is this not normal, car is LHD. I have read others saying the driver side was the hard mount but i had no issues with it.

Never done this on an e31 (and I have a '97 840Ci), but did it last year on a MB 560 SEC. I found if I raised the engine slightly I could get much better access to the mount bolts. The old mounts have probably collapsed, and raising the engine will provide more space for a wrench - just my thoughts.
