I just wondering, can I make my own diag cable for e36? I searched on the net about 2-3 days but I can't find an ADS cable for inpa. BUT. I already have a 20pin round socket, an db9 connector and lots of wire. Also, I've got a pc with real rs232 port, so what's happen if I make a cable and I try to connect to the car? Is it possible to work? Anyone could send me a pic about the correct pins layout?

And if I build this, can I use this cable for an E36 with INPA/DIS in ADS mode? It could read every modules?
You could just pay the oney and buy a "tiny ads" off ebay.
But it is an ADS interface it works for all E36 modules.
One exception being the Motronic on the 325 but in reality that works too if you find mistreku.zip on the net

Yes I can buy, but I like DIY things so I feel I must build this board and never know... if it's fail, then going to order from eBay. From the other hand, I living in Hungary so I have to pay a lots of money for shipping ... but it's another story....
That's why I built one for fun. I have built 4 from the strip board diagram I did and all 4 worked first time.
mistreku.zip is some modified files for the older Motronic ECU.
However, you can get about 80% of E36 modules with a Vagcom / KKL / ODBII cable and use a 16 pin to 20 pin adapter.
If you want to do engine and don't care about the ADS modules such as instrument cluster and don't have an old motronic ECU that will usually be enough.
If you want it all, then building an ADS is cheapest

One more question left... searched on the net and I found another diagram to build your own ADS interface, but in this guide there was 2 little chips. In your diagram there isn't any chip. What is the different between the two diagram?

The ADS design requires / utilizes transistors. The chip-less version has the transistors loose. The chipped version has the equivilent packaged into the chips. (I think it's a PAL or GAL.) I would go with the loose transistor version, unless you get intouch with one of the individuals providing a kit. In that case, the chip arrays should arrive pre-programed.

Yes I found in this thread, but it's a "with chip" version. I bought the parts and the panel so next, I have to put the parts on to board, but I can't, 'cause I don't have a board draw yet.

I built the board but I thing something went wrong 'cause when I try to use inpa sais: batt ON ign OFF. however I turned on the ignition. BUT, when I actually turn off the ignition, inpa sais: batt ON ign ON.

Bear with me I know what you may have done...………….
If I remember correctly serial pin 6 DSR is ignition detect.
This sits at 12 V with almost no current flow through resistor from the 12V UNTIL the ignition is turned on then the transistor switches and connects the pin 6 side of the resistor to earth so the signal goes low.
If it is reversed you may have the resistor and pin 6 on the wrong side of the transistor.
Or I am completely wrong. Check that wiring though.

Yes i see.... I searched for the pinouts of the transistors and yes.... 8 transistor seats in a wrong way from 9:P so I have to replace them to the right way. I hope it's will be work
Finally. I've got the board worked, but just half a fun... I fixed my transistors so the ignition detect works perfectly, but I can't read out any errors of my car, however inpa could detect them, but if I try to connect it sais: 009. I don't know why... I ran the over all special test, that was ok, the test done successfull but it said: no errors in memory. False. I know I've got error 'cause with the std:obd interface cable I can read this but only the DME and Airbag modules. So... what can I do now? Is a SW issue or the board still dos not work perfectly?

Did you pay attention to one transistor being different to the rest?
Did you alter the configuration ediabas.ini to say HARDWARE = ADS instead of STD ODB ?
(or whatever I forget, but make a copy before changing)
DID you run ADSSETUP from the COMMAND prompt, and not just double click it in explorer) after that ini file change?
(PS if after reading this you just go and double click ADSSETUP you're on your own)

Just for info the battery and ignition indicators are meaningless for almost all operations and will not stop you reading diags even if they are not wired.

Yes of course. Nothing... never mind, I decided, put this board to the trash and I'll build another one based on your panel and resistor values. I hope this will work, and help me to read out the ABS module. Anyway, thanks for your help!
So... I built this again... (v.4) it does not worked... so I decided to hit this f*ckin board a little and woooaaawwwww... started to work... So it's working right now.... thanks a lot for all and thank you for your helps!!!
Props for doing this, but sounds like you could've saved yourself quite some time and money by buying a ready made cable.
No need to reinvent the wheel.

The most expensive parts is the 20 pin connector, most of the Tiny ADS boards mean you still have to buy this connector.
So no, you can't save money by buying the tiny ADS. You can't even save time, because the money spent represents x hours working, and if you did not need to turn down paying work to do it then the time spent has no value. DIY rules
