I have a 1983 633 CSI. I ordered a new ignition switch for the car. I installed it in the colum and found that it goes to assesories but does not start the car. Its almost as if it can’t turn far enough to crank the motor. If I pull it out I can turn it outside the colum and start the car. Is there an adjustment I can implement to fix this, or did I get a defective switch? Thanks for any help. Nick.
Your car is pretty close to the turnover between the E12 and E28 models build dates (9/1982?), are you sure BMW got you the correct part? According to RealOEM, the early part is 61321366107 (9/78-9/82), mid-production part is 61321372931 (9/82-9/85) and the late-production part is 61321377105 (9/85-4/89).
Can those early units can accidentally be installed backwards or slip inside the housing? Looks like there's a grub screw to retain it but the diagram isn't very clear on that. Post some pics if you get a chance.
