OEM connector very hard to remove

Hi, yesterday I bought at the breakers a Bavaria Electronic CD II. The problem is, when I tried to disconnect the radio connector (typical BMW square plug), it was really hard. I know the way is releasing the strap with a screwdriver, but it was so hard that the plastic was creaking. So I cut the wires and took the radio with the connector plugged.

Now I want to test the radio in my E36, but first I have to unplug the connector, again itīs very hard, the strap moves about half a centimeter but I have to use a lot of force and obviously I donīt want to break the plastic. Any advice? Thanks a lot.

Yes, I saw some youtube videos before posting, in those videos it seems very easy but unplugging the connector was difficult in my car. Finally two of four stabs in the radio broke.
