    e46 Sunroof help...greater Boston/northern NE

    Hi all...

I have an 01 e46 325it sport manual. I have a sunroof problem (surprise, surprise). Had the typical sunshade issue, so I did the DIY...now I have trouble with the sunroof leaking. Leaks at the passenger front corner, down the A pillar.

Two of Boston's best indie BWM specialists have tried to fix it.

    A. Shop in Boston fixed it...until I opened and closed the sunroof, then it started leaking again.
    B. Shop just north of Boston found the drains were clogged. Blew them out and when they tested it at the shop, no leaks. On the way home, I open/close the sunroof, boom, it starts leaking again. Take it back, they cannot recreate the problem.

Shop #2 suggested taking it to ?Sunroof Doctors? in NH. Said they used to fix all the sunroof issues for Tulley. It's a franchise, and not crazy about having to drive 90 minutes one way to get it fixed. But I need the sucker fixed as I want to sell the car. If there is an indie that you know of that is a rockstar at fixing BMW sunroofs, I would appreciate it. I don't have the time to fiddle with it myself.

Sidenote: My driveway is on a slight downward slant, towards the passenger side. However, the sunroof worked previously, so I don't think my driveway is the culprit here.

    Thanks

    Burgundy

PS. Community FYI: Shop just north of Boston told me they don't open or close sunroofs when testing them, which I think is ridiculous. And, I had to convince them (like 3x) to elevate the rear of the car to better approximate my real life conditions. Buyer beware.

Dunno exactly how the E46 looks (my E46 has the "megasunroof" feature) but for E39 the lines can get pinched under the trim such that they pass small amounts of water but overflow when it gets heavy. Testing with the roof closed is fine, although if you know what you're doing you can open the roof and gently pour water down the drain in question. But you can't expect that to flow unlimited water - even the most perfect factory setup you can overload doing that and then the tray overflows and leaks but its really "fine".

But, "Blowing out" sunroof lines is legendarily questionable because it can "blow off" connections on the hose. You can use air but you want to do it judiciously and there's some other tricks you can use (like putting the air into a long hose that then threads down inside the factory tube so the pressure gets past the first joint... ) The other tricks are a stiff weed-wacker cord to roto-root.

If its front corner / A-pillar that's pretty easy to access, pull the trim, worst case pull the front corner of the headliner down without removing...
