    1997 BMW M3 P0455 Code

    Hi,

I have a 1997 M3 with the S52 engine that has a P0455 code (System Gross Leak Evaporative Emission) that I have been fighting:

1.) I have checked all of the lines for the evaporative system from the engine to the tank. This includes the evap tank in the trunk.
2.) The purge valve is operating correctly.
3.) The gas cap is new.

I have found one broken vacuum line from the secondary air system valve to the intake manifold. Can this leak be the source of my P0455 code?

    Thanks for your help.

I would get the evap system smoke tested, that would be the easiest way to find the hole.

yup, gross leak code should be found pretty quickly.

i think the secondary air system would show a different code - something like incorrect flow detected, etc. now, whether or not OBD II separates those out, i'm not sure.

+1. Secondary air has nothing to do with the evap code. Have the evap system smoke tested for leaks.
