Don't post on this forum much. Spend most of my time on the e23 forum, as I drive a 1983 745i with over 320,000 miles on it.
Working on my wife's 2000 MRoadster, man. 5/2000.
I know why it is on. Just need to know how to reset.
Removed both door panels to replace window sliders. Removed side air bags to gain access (disconnected battery first). While they were unplugged, I connected the battery to run the windows up and down to gain access to the sliders. Pretty certain that connecting the battery and turning on the accessories while the bags were disconnected caused the code.
Also, I removed the pass seat to replace the rotted bushings with delrin bushings. I don't believe the battery was ever connected during that procedure.
I have used the search feature, but there is conflicting info. I have a cheap scanner, but it only reads the engine fault codes. Already tried it. BTW, no codes present.
Will one of the cheapo tools advertised on epay really work? Pretty sure there is no present issue. Just need to reset the light.

One video on youtube states you can reset by removing one of the instrument cluster fuses (I think he removed it with the key on). In his case it was an e46, fuse 10 for the instrument cluster. But on the 2000 MRoadster, it shows the instrument cluster fuses as 23, 27, 31 & 46. I hate to just start pulling fuses, especially with the key on. Anyone reset the light by pulling one of those fuses?

Yes, I know I can go by an independent shop and hopefully they can reset for not too much expense. But, I would rather do it myself.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Oh my, those Youtubers... pulling a fuse is not a fix, nor a clear.
You can't clear it by pulling a fuse. It requires a very specific software command to clear the error.

That's why I asked.
What about the cheap reset tools on ebay?
Anyone here have personal experience with one, and did it work?
I used one of my old laptops (because I was afraid), loaded INPA software per this thread: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...xperimentation , bought the 2 cables from the "trusted Chinese seller". I did something wrong and had to start over again, so it took me about 4 hours. But now I have INPA for any future problems. It cleared the code and light, but they came on again with only a code for the seatbelt connector. There are elaborate ways to clean that connector, but I just pulled it apart and then put it back together with some force. Cleared the codes again and it has been fine ever since.
I use an eBay tool (well, Amazon) and it worked great.

Did not work when I first tried it, as I had it plugged into the interior diagnostic port. After thinking about it, I looked for the 20 pin round diagnostic port under the hood. Sure enough. Worked just fine.
Hard to beat it for the money. This car is going up for sale. If anyone is interested look on OKC CL. It's been a great little car, but my wife decided she wanted an SUV now that we have twin grandsons. I still drive my 83 745i, and have 9 other cars to play with, so this one won't get driven if we keep it. Besides, the little town North of OKC we moved to three and a half years ago (Guthrie) has a lot of brick streets, and this car is sprung a little stiff for that kind of street. Still, overall, maybe the best handling, most balanced handling car I have ever driven, and while not so fast by today's standards, it does at least get out of its own way.
