Hi, Was hoping to hear from anyone who has installed an aftermarket Carplay Unit into an E-46. I understand there are some "mechless" Units that will fit without having to preform surgery on the HVAC Tubing. i have an 04 330CI with Harmon Kardon and was told by one installer that any Unit am looking at must have a preamp voltage of at least 4 volts for the Harmon Amplifier to work properly? Would love to hear or see what CarPlay Units other People have gone with.
TIA
Cheers.

The factory HK amp takes balanced differential inputs. The voltages are typically higher than typical line level voltages.
The voltage doesn't matter on the HK system. It will work just fine on most aftermarket setups. And just do the Surgery. Bestbuy can do the install for your. Metra makes a very nice kit for the car that works great and has everything you need. THen you get get a name brand Carplay unit which will work out better in the long run.
There are two kits. Make sure you get the right one.
here a link to one of them.
