What rod/ main bearings are you using in your motor?

    Hey guys,

I’m in the market for some new bearings, What do you guys suggest? I was going to run acl std with Oversized oil clearances but are they worth the price? I have always had good experiences with Glyco but I’ve never heard any reviews from high hp guys using them. So out of curiosity what is everyone running?

I have glyco, but think ACL, king, ks and others are also fine.

    A question for all:

If the oil is doing it's job, and the clearance (and concentricity) is correct, does the source of the bearing and it's material really matter?

part of choosing the bearing is one that gives the correct clearance and having a brand that produces shells within tight tolerances is important. different brands often run a different amount of eccentricity so tolerate more loading the others from this aspect

inevitably you get some momentary loss of film when starting or even if there is some light momentary detonation so some materials are more tolerant than others

embedability matters especially in a street engine thats bound to get a lot of crap in the oil over extended periods.

The shell see stress because it and the housing it sits in deform under the pressure loads and other external forces so they can fatigue, then there is thermal performance the local temperatures are actually alot higher than people realize. this means a bearing with more load capacity needs to use a thinner overlay which is not always good for all applications. the "harder" the bearing materials the better the machining in the rod and overall alignment needs to be

the notion that as long as there is a film that is maintained you'll be sweet grossly over simplifys things, the materials actually do matter moreso the more you ask of it. youre average street application its not so important
