My door speakers are crap and mixed with other speakers that were installed by the PO. I went ahead and purchased 4 of these https://www.parts-express.com/goldwo...4-ohm--290-374
I was told by another E38 owner that he bought them and they went in without an issue. When I got the speakers I realized how deep they were. The mounting depth of these are 3.1 inches while the door enclosures only have 2 inches or so. I cannot seem to find any 4ohm 5.25 woofer that is shallow enough for this car. Also there is no info on whether these speakers need an infinite baffle or an enclosure to work properly. My guess is that they do not need the enclosure.
So my question is, anyone have any good drop in speaker solutions that wont cost more than $100 for all 4? My other question is, if I were to cut the rear of the enclosure to allow the magnet to fit, it will most likely protrude around an inch. Possible I may run into issues with window clearance? I have not had the time to pull apart the doors and check, that and it has been pouring rain here in Florida. If anyone has experience with this is would be greatly appreciated.

yes you can go to the junk yard and pull speakers from 2000-2005 VW passat jetta and golf they have a quality monsoon speaker that with slight modification drop right in and sound amazing I'm doing this upgrade as I write this
Every speaker will likely be too deep. Even the Pioneer's I bought (search my previous post if curious) were about 3/16 too deep. You have to use a heat gun and stretch the ABS out with a jar or something to make clearance.
I would have tried that if I hadn't already purchased my speakers :\
I thought of doing that same thing but wasn't sure if the plastic would stretch easily, or if it would come in contact with the window. Looks like I will be trying this out soon. I have the speakers, just waiting on changing the window regulator first. Thank you
