Back in a BMW! 550i M Sport, AUX question

Back in a BMW and it feels so good! I recently purchased a 2008 550i M Sport as I needed something fun, but still easy to load kids into. Absolutely love this car but I am so paranoid something is going to break after all the research I have done haha. I will make a proper show thread once I get her cleaned up.

Anyways, I have been reading up on the AUX/USB cord and have found different information everywhere. I have an IPhone 7 and the USB port will only charge the phone. Idrive does not indicate it picks up the USB either when plugged in. Some people say USB works while others say only the AUX works for them...I checked out the Y cables on amazon but all of them seem to have horrible reviews? What are you using? Any extra info would be appreciated. Thanks guys

Which navigation system do you have? Did you connect to the glove box USB or the central armrest one?
If you stick a USB key in, can you import the files?

The connections are in the arm rest.

Haven't tried a USB stick yet, just attempted to play Pandora from my phone

Navigation system I am not sure, but the vehicle is the updated version with LCI lighting if that helps determine.

I ended up getting a simple USB connection for my iPhone. Allows me to play music and talk on the phone if needed but no charging at the same time.

Interesting thing that happens when I connect my iPod via USB it kills the iPod battery within 10 minutes, I don't get it.

If you have a CIC iDrive and you want good BT and USB functionality, get a combox.
