    1994 325i #37 10 Amp Fuse Blowing

Has any had this issue or maybe know a solution?

The #37 Fuse which is a 10 Amp and goes to the Illumination of controls and instrument cluster is popping. But here’s what I’ve narrowed it down to. When the truck is open and I replace the fuse everything starts working as it should. The dash lights, rights driving lights and rear tag light come on. But when I go to close the trunk (about half way down, the fuse pops. If I try replacing the fuse with the trunk closed the fuse pops immediately. I’m thinking maybe some kind of wiring in the trunk lid. As always, any help is greatly appreciated!

I found the issue. I open up the wiring that goes to the trunk lid and there are 9 of the 10 wires have been pinched and have wire exposed.

Download the Bentley manual, there is a good electrical section.

Click the search button, select "search single content type", select the "e36 sub forum" specifically, try the "search titles" then try the "search entire posts".

I cannot remember which of my BMWs I had to do this on. Probably the E34. The wiring loom where it flexes when the trunk opens and shuts -- check and see if wires are broken or chafing the insulation off and shorting out against each other. Unwrap the wiring loom and check carefully. Since it only happens when you have it shut or when in the process of shutting it (key).

edit: I did not see your edit at the bottom! But yes, this is a pretty common issue across the different platforms from this era. They last long enough to get past warranty and then some, and then people like us have to fix them!

The E36 had a 100 000 km design life, which is one reason folks, here, liked to buy a new replacement before the odometer reached that and the car got harder to sell.
