I was about to suggest somebody to spend $25 on the BMW Scanner software+adapter and just buy it on Amazon, but the cheapest is $75 now
It's probably still worth it, it's the most user friendly software to read all your error codes.
If you dont want to deal with a notebook the iCarsoft i910 Multi-system Scanner for $80 is a good alternative. Gives you INPA level info (even roughness) plus some valuable extras like adaptation angle values. Of course, INPA is better but sometimes you just dont want to start up a notebook to check something simple.
I got mine from Ebay, slower delivery but it was $25-30 IIRC.
With other models apparently PA Soft will give you some live data? but mine does not.
