    Question Diffsonline 420G reviews?

My 3rd gear synchro is just about toast, lots of high RPM board shifting has taken its toll. I've been contemplating a dog box - but there's not much for options if I want overdrive (which I most certainly do). Seeing as I've never actually felt what a brand new 420G even feels like, I could only imagine it's amazing, so maybe the Diffsonline 420G is all that I need. Does anyone run one?

Not what you're asking but a cool option to consider would be a dog box T56 from GForce - they will make the first 4 gears dog engagement and 5/6 synchronized, so you kinda get the best of both worlds. And quicktime now makes a bellhousing to fit a T56 to an M50.

420G is rated at only 420 NM (310 lbs) torque while a GS6-53 is rated at 530 NM (390 lbs) and BMW put it behind the turbo V8 F10 M5 that made 502 lbs torque so it is somewhat officially under rated. The GS6-53 is the stronger and better shifting trans. I signed up for one if Vollosso’s conversion kits.

But a trans like the T56 Magnum is even heavier duty — rated at 700 lbs. It would be a more expensive conversion since you can’t find used Magnums and new ones are $3200 plus $900 for the bell housing and you will still need a flywheel, clutch, driveshaft, support brace, and probably a short diff (3.62 - 3.85?) due to the trans gear ratios.

I have the S6-53 in my E92 - I don't like it. It does not like high-rpm shifts at all. I've yet to meet a ZF trans that I've liked. The G-Force T56 is actually the only other option I am seriously considering because this is behind an LS already, but I never really hear anything good about a T56 - it's just what everyone uses because there really isn't any other option. Besides, with a new flywheel, clutch, slave, driveshaft etc etc, the G-Force box is gonna be more than the 420G.

Reduce clutch inertia and remove that Cdv. Maybe you’ll like it more?

I have the GS6-53 in my 08 E90 M3 and like it and it shifts fine at 8500 rpm. No clutch delay valve on the E9x M3 and it has a factory twin disk clutch. 335i may be different. If money and time were no object, I would lean towards the Magnum conversion but probably not a GForce dog box one for my street use.

$5000 is expensive for a trans, so it is probably a slow seller and none of the few buyers are active here right now. Rumor is it’s the same one Turner sells, but I don’t think there are any reviews there, either:

It has to be better than a 12-17 year old stock one. There was a guy selling rebuilt cyro treated ZF320 here. One guy spent the money to buy it and blew it up on his first event, but he had a very high power turbo E36M3. Hopefully this 420G rebuild addresses whatever issues you are having with 420Gs. Call Dan to ask.
