Anyone order a oem windshield for their e34?
I bought one about 18 months ago and list price was maybe $350 just for the windshield I recall.
Which dealer? Was the price shipped?
I bought one a few years back for about $250. I picked it up so no shipping charge. It's still in the box waiting to be installed. If it's not NLA you should be able to get from any dealer.

Mine was from the dealer in Amarillo. I picked it up. It was in a big box that was nicely packed with foam.
Are the aftermarket windshields really that inferior? I know some are junk but your $250 US is closer to $600 at my local dealer ripoff parts counter. Fortunately I have a parts car.
Can the windshield be pulled off, without breaking it, just in case you want to re-use?
not that easy, I tried in on my parts car, bought extra a special tool for that as shown in the link, but it cracked, the rear one then I got out. Here some info for the E32, same applies for E34 http://bmwe32.masscom.net/sean750/wi...eplacement.htm

yea its not easy, recomend going to a yard for a day and practicing for hours till you learn how to not crack one. When i worked at the yard the pros used sawzalls with spatula like attachments and could get one out in under 30 mins. I saw regular people with te wire thing take 2 days.
You'd want a lot of practice. RIP my spare rx3 and rx4 windshields I tried to pull from 808 and 929 spare cars 20 years ago. No matter how well I cut with a knife and got wire underneath and through them they still got stuck and eventually cracked in one corner
If pick and pull yards are still around near you (gone from here due to suburban sprawl taking over industrial land), do a lot of research and buy some proper tools and have some practice on worthless cars without getting caught )

Thanks for the feedback. Is it true aftermarket windshields are thinner and weaker?
I can't imagine that's true, DOT wouldn't let that pass. As long as you purchase and have it installed by a reputable glass installer you should get an OEM quality glass. What you are going to need make sure of is if they are going to provide the trim clips and replace the trim if it's damaged during removal. I keep a dozen trim clips on hand just in case. Now the aftermarket glass won't have the BMW logo on it which in most point based car shows is a dig which I'm guessing where most of this nonsense started. Very few of us on here are driving a show car around.

Over the years I've had many aftermarket windshields installed on various vehicles. Never had any quality issues.
Many times the a/m glass are made in the same place as the factory they just don't have the tags that oem get. also even for professionals its about a 50-50 shot getting one out with out it cracking.
