    Z3 ABS Pump

Ok I have a 98 Z3 ABS pump failure of the two front solenoids, my question is this,

I also have an 95 e36 coupe parts car ,is the ABS pump the same in my E36 if so can I install it on my Z3??

    Thank you

Likely not compatible. But what exact models are we talking about? Last 7 of VINs? ASC present?

Some of the early pump solenoids had their internal power supply ribbon crack with age, and it's fairly easy to rewire inside for an easy and cheap repair.

It might also be nothing to do with the pump but rather a broken solder pad on the abs module. My 99 2.3 showed abs pump fail when it cracked.

Go to realoem.com and enter your vin to find the parts that are specific to your car.

ABS pump failures are extremely rare in my experience. The Z is the only car that ever showed this fault and as stated before was actually the module. Check out Module master website.

If ABS and ASC are on, it's most likely the rusty wheel speed sensor (rear) that needs some abrasive. If it failed, I would just take out ABS all together since BMW ones are way too aggressive anyways.

If your ABS/ASC lights are on and you've nothing better to do. You may want to peruse this thread. The pump diagnosis is usually bogus as others have already said, but especially on 99 coupes.

98 z3 has a totally different abs system from 99-2000 Z3. The fixes mentioned above will not apply.

Thanks ...we plugged in in at the dealer my fried works there and it showed that the two fron abs solenoids were failed closed so when the brakes are applied the calipers won’t release all they way dragging the brakes till they eventually lock up
i don’t think you can replace them it looks like a complete module that’s $1400 from BMW the component sits under the brake master and has the pump on it and the solenoid module attached to it looks like one complete unit

I had this on my 328 before.
I had the same issue with one of my 95 m3’s years back, and re-soldering the wires was the fix.

Oops, my bad. His car list shows a 99 Z3 coupe. Sorry, should have read his post more carefully.

I think this one needs to be properly diagnosed before you plunk down a lot of time and money.
