M52TU/M54- Oil Filter Housing is stuck to the block

Hi there. I have an M52TU 528i, same oil filter housing as the M54. I am trying to remove the oil filter housing in order to replace the gasket inside that I suspect is leaking. However, upon trying to pull out the housing itself after removing all the bolts (including the VANOS line), the thing won't budge- it's like it was welded to the block.

I have tried PB blaster and a pry bar, but this thing is completely stuck. Any advice? Do I just keep applying PB and waiting till it does its job?

-To clarify, I am not talking about the 36MM nut on top of the housing, I'm referring to removing the entire housing from the engine block.

    My thoughts too.
OP, have a look, at your new gasket which ought to indicate all the bolt locations. Me thinks you've missed one and ought not be using that pry bar. If this is too late I have a spare housing FS

There are 6 black bolts, different lengths, holding the housing to the block.. Plus, you need to unbolt the power steering pump (3 bolts, 2 are long, one is short, and comes upwards at the back of the pump, through a bracket.)Do you have all these bolts on your workbench?

    Exactly Chris,
but I suspect OP has not removed the alternator or PS bolt.
A prybar should definitely not be needed,
as the aluminum face of the housing and engine block do not exhibit that corrosive effect.

Update: I am a complete idiot. Forgot to remove two sneaky bolts (bottom and top right). Wasted about an hour being completely stumped until I looked at the new housing and realized that only four of the six bolts were there.

    Sorry to waste everyone's time.

Ehhh, complete idiots do not learn from their mistakes, and do not listen to advice.

    So you're all good.

Glad you've solved it without damage.

    +1.

You sought out an answer, you looked for, and found the issue. I promise, I've made far more, and far worse mistakes.....
