New to the forums and hoping for some help. This car is a rebuilt title with 129xxx miles that I have owned a year now. When bought I had it checked out by BMW and had them bring all maintenance up to date. They gave it a clean bill and even were surprised by the entire condition of the car considering only paying 5k. Well now there are strange idle surges in all gears. It started only when the car was warming up but now it is all the time it is idling in park, drive, natural, and Reverse. There is also a pretty hard lurching forward feeling happening at times when the "surge" happens when in drive (I noticed it when my 15 year old permit carrying son was waiting in the drive thru line and the car tried to lurch forward and there was a car in front - I was more than nervous and he just held the brake and said well that's not good). We have blown out the vanos solenoids (worth a try) but just don't know where to start. Help?
I also have the famous "trifecta". 3k for the new part is steep and have had a shop that has been "fixing" this for the past 9 months (it is under the shops warranty) but the shop advises that the part will continue to be faulty until I drop the $ to replace it properly - anyone want to touch this issue?
Please be kind guys? I am not only new here but new to owning BMWs -
Here is a video of what is occuring.
So as an update - ran through a coder and got some hits. How about it's misfiring on cylinders 1 and 3. There are a lot more but to wanted to give a quick update.
Have you replaced the ignition coils yet? If not, that's more than likely your issue

I had exactly the same issue and learnt the hard way (after spending over $1500) that this issue is caused by bad coils. Replace all six for peace of mind. I bought OE coils and couldn't be happier.
Rock Auto is a good source for parts but consider FCPeuro if you are planning on keeping your car. Full lifetime warranty on EVERYTHING they sell including gaskets and fluids. Essentially anything that can be returned.
I’ve never had luck with aftermarket coils, unfortunately the oem are expensive but they will fix the problem
