hello to all I have a question about a 2008 bmw 550i that I am thinkin of buying at an auction its in great condition inside and out has 94,000 miles 2 owners but the radiator had a hole in it and the driver ran the car with no antifreez and blew the head gasket,
so my question is, is it worth fixing the headgasket or just buying another engine? can these engines be fixed after a blown headgasket or are they like the e46 m54? that mechanics don't recommend fixing headgaskets on?
or since its a v8 can I only fix the side that blew the head on?
I fixed a few bmw's before but I don't know nothing about the v8 and I always try and stay away from them but its a really nice car.
I have two days before the auction what do you guys think?
Run away.

lol that's what I thought, I wont even look at it again. thanks
Run very far away, cars are at the auction for a reason
The only time I find it advantageous to buy and rescue an auction car is when you yourself have what the other guy didn't.
This may be electrical/diagnostic equipment and expertise (often most important), extra hardware or components (ex: an engine), extensive repair experience, or deep resources.
Many times a combination of the above.
If it's a Copart car that isn't sold by insurance, you can bet someone's inexperienced hands have been through that car, and made it worse.
Then they 'prettyfied' it and placed it up for sale to the next in line for losses.

the car belongs to a finance company who takes their cars to the aution after the owner stops making payments, the car doesn't appear to have signs of a blown head the only thing is the radiator is busted and no coolent but I guess they have techs there at the auction that check them out its just a shame the car is in great condition even the tires are brand new but if in fact it does have a blown head than that's a pretty big headache I really don't want to deal with, but then again if goes for a really cheap price I will try and get it.thanks for your imput
There's nothing more expensive than a cheap BMW.
