Picked up a 2001 BMW X5 4.4 DEAD off an auction. I love to fall in a big BMW troubles and I find the pleasure digging myself out!
Abandoned bimmer with no key. I never made a key before, but last time I called an independent locksmith to make a key for E39 I was charged $300 for 15 minutes job and the key didn't even look like it belongs to a German car. I researched, bought the tools and materials and thought myself how to make the key from scratch. <<< (Pleasure)
Car started very rough with many codes on the cluster and regular obd scanner. Next day I plugged my booster to the battery and it wouldn't start. Researched and it was EWS needed a reset. Got the KDCAN cable online, installed the INPA software and after two days got it to run again. Very rough idling with P1635 code, Cleaned the Throttle body, reset the adaptation but with no luck.
With the rubber hose out I cleared the codes and I could see the flap ticking, I read that it should take a full open close position after reset or after you turn the ignition to position 2 before starting the engine. I purchased another Throttle body and it did the same exact thing.
Battery voltage is 12.5v off and 14.01v after. Tried to register the battery (non BMW) but couldn't find the option in INPA, tried EDIABAS but got lost!
Checked the Thermostat plug and it was fine, checked the DME connectors and all were clean.
Now cluster shows Engine failsafe / Transmission failsafe / coolant low (actually it's full)
Status: Idles rough/ gas pedal no response
Now my INPA report displays in German, I checked the INPA.INI and it looks good. copied the EDIABAS\ECU folder back from the backup but still German. The report shows the following errors:
