    green rear window

I need to replace my convertible top rear window and want to match the OEM look. The aftermarket windows are available dark tinted, clear, and green tinted. My current window looks kind of green, but it may be due to age.

Did these cars have green tinted windows when new or were they clear?

    Thanks

They were clear and go green with age.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.

Are you positive about this? Several of the replacement top companies list a green tinted window as original to the car.

The BMW rear window also seems to be green based on the pictures: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...w/54318401027/

At any rate, I'm wondering "why green?"

They do indeed come green from the factory. Green has a high visible light transmission, ruduces solar heat gain, and is used in the PVB lamination in the glass for safety, keeps glass from shattering in an accident..... But we are talking about the back plastic window so only the first two apply here.

Green. My BMW window that I messed up this past weekend is clearly tinted green.

Well just scroll down to KJ79's post and he explains how green affects the transmission of light. He is correct on all points.

But the real reason is the same as why we have green beer bottles, it keeps the sun from ruining your beer.

I am sorry that came out even though I was telling my fingers to stop. Mothers against drunk driving probably have my license plate # now and are looking for me.
