    Seized transfer case

Had my 07 X3 in for regular service at dealer. No issues reported except brakes would be needed soon. Started to drive off lot & triad lights came on & what I thought were the brakes, it locked up. Luckily, I hadn't gotten out on the street, so I went back in & they took it back in. Got called a few hours later & was told "the transfer case seized" & it would be $4200 to repair. It has 147k miles on it, so it's not even worth $4200! Also said it would prob just be a total loss if we chose not to repair. Any advice?
