Overdue for a Secondary Air Pump Replacement

I finally replaced the secondary air pump. It was very loud at cold start and I figured it would not last long.

There is a good write up on e38.org on how to replace the secondary air pump. A few supplemental notes though. I had no trouble disconnecting the connectors from the parking sensors, you must squeeze the connector to free it, they came right off. Careful when removing the nuts from the attachment frame that holds the secondary air pump. There are three rubber mounts that have bolts out each end and when the nut is turned, the rubber mount can twist in two. The way to remove the nut is to hold the metal at the end of the rubber mount with a pliers while loosening the nut.

I replaced the secondary pump valve also just to be thorough. I had an engine code P1423 and figured that the valve may be the culprit.

Did your codes go away? I have a noisy air pump as well, but I've already replaced the valve and I still get the code.

    The code is gone.

Some have gotten a code from leaky hoses between pump and valve.

That hose is more fragile than glass, just had to buy a new one, ouch.
