Hi, I've look thru the master thread above and thru Facebook groups. All have wishwashy answers or just conflicting replies.
Ive got a 93 e36 sedan with an auto. This is my first BMW build. When I bought the car I bought another M50 and just picked up an e46 ZF 5spd.
Ive got the trans, flywheel/clutch, e46 master cylinder, and shifter assembly.
What else do I need, specifically?
I know I need a driveshaft. What should I buy? Can I just get an e46 front half?
Which trans mount do I need?
E46s are pretty plentiful in Pull-A-Parts around here. E36....not so much. Trying to keep it cheap.
I'm trying to get it back on the road since the auto just took a shit.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
You need e36 coupe front half driveshaft. An e36 shifter assembly and the mount for the zf. I'm not sure about a manual engine harness as I think e36 auto had a desperate transmission controller. So I'm not sure if you can use the auto harness just without the transmission controller paired with an auto trans. Oh... and you need a peddle assembly for a manual obviously.
Nobody would recertify these machines after somebody screwed with them without any visibility into what they did.
HONK! HONK! Clown car coming through!

So an e46 ZF shifter assembly is different than an e36 assembly?
Www.realoem.com is your friend.
E36 is now in the ‘Classic’ catalog.
As I recall you need to have ECU coded to eliminate the ‘trans’ light in cluster.…and figure out the neutral safety switch/bracket and reverse light switch wiring.
