    840 Top End leak

I have searched and read several posts regarding oil leaks. The oil is dripping down from above on the passenger side. The air compressor has oil on it. I am going to remove the intake because I do see oil at the front edge of the valley pan. Does anyone know where that oil can be coming from? It is not the valve cover gaskets.

    Thanks

It is worth checking the timing chain tensioner - that drips onto the compressor - with a lot of front-end oil leaks it will go everywhere due to the airflow around the engine - tensioner covered here:

M62's are leakers foresure!! as they develop oil leaks (early & often) mileage/age and require regular profile gasket replacement due to these gaskets getting hard.
Sounds like the upper timing case cover profile gasket. This is the timing case extension on the front of the head of the M62. The profile gasket in this case will be hard as plastic and has none of the rubber resilience of the gasket when it was new.
Not easy to replace as the valve cover must be removed and the case needs to be installed so the top surface is aligned with the head. I used the valve cover without the valve cover gasket as the tool to align the upper timing case before the case bolts are tightened (see TIS for details).

Thank you both. It does appear to be coming from the timing case area and possibly the tensioner or gasket or both. M6bigdog, what is TIS you refer to for details? Thanks again, much appreciated.
