    M62TU camshaft jumped tooth?

So I have been trying to fix the P1519("A" Camshaft Position Actuator Bank 1) code on my 2000 bmw 540i. All of the electronics and sensors have been tested so I decided to replace the VANOS unit. When I took off the valve cover I saw this.

I thought the camshafts are supposed to be aligned due to reference photos i have seen but mine seem to be unaligned. Does it look like a tooth might have been skipped?

You have a solenoid code, not a timing code. That said, P-codes are garbage, you need to be reading BMW codes,

Still, swap the solenoids from bank 1 to bank 2, then clear the codes, and see whether the solenoid code moves to bank 2.

Do not undo the timing and replace the vanos unit until you know what's really wrong. How many miles on this engine? Did you hear rattling or clacking noises?

I already swapped the solenoids and I selected the BMW specific in my code reader. The car has 180000 miles and there was some ticking but the chains all seem to be tight.
