I would like a good pic of rear interior hatch floor area w/ carpet floor removed , so I can replace/position all the "tools and stuff" properly that reside there. I removed them all about yr ago to do related work, and never put them all back.
I have a 2.8 coupe.....but perhaps a 3.0 ,and M coupe are all the same back there
big thnx

A Roadster, but probably enough to get you started.
I'll snap a pic of mine on the way out of work tonight (also a 2.8 Coupe). Then I can see if I'm missing anything.

that could not be more perfect...big thnx!!!
some interesting side notes: 1)my metal battery hold down "strap" is unfinished raw metal, did you paint yours black?
2) my car had an impossible to reach/access short bolt that secured the "clip" holding the rear end side of battery down onto floor , while your pic shows an ez to reach loooooong bolt.....
3)ok, its clear to me the 2 sockets in our tool tray are long gone from my life, wonder wa happened to those.....strange. What size are they?....wonder the significance of those 2?
thnx fellas!
When you pop the boot out of the hatch, pull some wire from the car side (there is a few inches of slack). I shot a little bit of lube in the boot so I could slide the boot as far left as possible. After that, it's pretty easy, depending on how many wires are broken. I had a grand total of ONE broken, but two were missing some insulation. I hit those two with solder and wrapped them tight with E-tape. I then added about a 1/2 of wire to the broken one with a stout solder joint on each end. wrapped that again in E-tape, then wrapped the entire bundle and reinstalled the boot. I maybe spent 15 minutes total.

Nice! This tells me I'm missing a piece or two from mine. I'll find them due to my OCD, but I'll never use. Hmm, looks like my corroded lug wrench could use a replacement too. It must have been left outside at some point in its life, because nowhere else on the car has any rot like that.

Hmm, BMW doesn't even list the two sockets...

wait a sec,
that is clearly a loooong bolt (on neg terminal side of batt) no?......it is securing the little metal "clip" that secures that end of the batt to floor......I have a tiny short bolt that Im now not even using after the new batt install of a few days ago.....its secure enuff.
good luck on the repair!!!!!

How right you are. long bolt on the neg end, short bolt on the inside of the black metal strap. Replacement battery is a little shorter height, that's why the paper shim under the strap.

M trunks are different than non-M's for the record
Not all cars came with all the tools and everything. Nor did they come with the long bolts for the lower screw-down plate. Mine is a short bolt as well.
My 3.0 has both. Long bolt for the shoe, short Allen bolt for the strap.
buying a long bolt is a qwik and cheap fix to reduce the short bolt stress......lol
my strap had a short allen
