Odd noise ...ever had one?

A few weeks ago I noticed an odd jingling-metallic sound and cant seem to find it. Since owning the car the starter would occasionally
give me the "click" without turning over, so I was thinking that the bendix in the starter was staying engaged on occasion and sort of riding
the flywheel. Seems RPM related, I just cant pinpoint it. It drives fine, runs like a top. Ive driven it 500 miles this week, and am driving to Georgia from NC next week.

I replaced the starter and there's no change, except it starts perfectly each time.

Just curious if anyone has ever had any odd sounds and what they ended up being.

87k miles, guides done as preventative measure a couple years ago.

I have an odd metallic rattle which I think is related to the AC condenser fan in front of the radiator but it isnt consistent but seems to stop if I turn the AC off (coincidence maybe)

Unrelated question: I have a 330ci Vert in Stratus Grau which I have never seen on the road here and I am curious as to how it looks on the 7 series as I suspect a respray might be in my plans for the future, the other colours being Carbon Schwarz and for a an "out there" look Twilight Purple

Yeah the compressors are loud with age, more of a knocking sound with my experience. Stratus on a 7 is beautiful.

I have a rattly exhaust when everything is cold. The downpipe is a double walled pipe, and I think the inner has rusted and is a little loose. It sounds like rattling cats, but my cats are ok. Maybe that's what you have also

That's a very coherent explanation for sure. Down pipe off the exhaust manifold? Trying to clarify.

Today the starter I put on died, and the shop had already tossed the old one. So, lesson learned on that, got a Bosh coming from WorldPac...hopefully get
it on Monday afternoon. In essence I've created a $500 problem that wasnt there. It died in my driveway, so now I have to get it towed.

Yeah the down pipe off the exhaust manifold. The end where it bolts up to the exhaust in front of the cats. I'm wondering if that sort of thing can be welded. I'm just too busy to care enough about that...since it doesn't seem to affect how the car drives. Just noise.

Sounds like that might be my issue for sure, sounds pretty crappy.

I have the same cold rattle...but only at start-up. When starting, the engine surges to a higher RPM and I hear the rattle. Afterwards, all is fine. I thought it was a heat shield or similar.
