A bit of advice from the wise here, please:
I'm planning on getting rid of my TRXs (no inventory anywhere; Michelin gave no guarantees as to next production run...).
I have BMW Style 15 wheels from the e38 7-series (affectionately known as "Bottlecaps"). They are 7.5 x 16, offset 20.
Would I have clearance issues to fit these wheels with 225/50R16 tires? or should I go for 215/55s or 205/55s? Suspension on my e24 is bone stock.
Thanks for any help!!
No problems with 205/55/16, even 225/50/16 should work-- just depends which tire size you'd prefer. May rub at full lock if you have an e12 based car, however.
Thank you, Tschultz! It is a late 1982 so e28 based.
hi Parlant...You can source the trx tires here
https://www.cokertire.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=trx
I'm new to the cars myself. I got these for a good price on ebay..everybody said they would work but I was bitting my nails...At stock hights, it seems like there is a lot of room in the wheel wells of these cars...They are 8&9x17" staggered style 32's with 235 fronts and 255 rears and could have easily gone to 265 in the rear. I believe the offset is ET20
85 m635.

Thanks CSGuy. I accessed their website previously and again today. The TRX 220/55 VR 390 are back ordered. I was informed that Michelin would tentatively produce these now in May but I haven’t heard anything, unfortunately.
Unfortunately TRX tires are expensive and not great. I don't think there is a value penalty at all for a nice set of newer OEM wheels. Obviously the more classic designs in the newer wheels tend to mesh better in the opinion of many of us, and the tires you can get are far better and safer. I'd probably keep a set of the original TRX wheels if mine had them, but I wouldn't seek any out at this point. My $0.02.
I’m with you on the TRXs, having a hard time sourcing some BBS RC 090s though, so for now it will be Style 15s. They might look really good with the 225 16s actually! Just hope they fit fine
