DCAN cable connection issues trying to register new battery

I replaced my battery today and I want to register it so I downloaded BMW logger software to use the registration function. The software says no devices connected, please make sure your cable is plugged in. I know the cable is good, I use it for MHD flasher, and have used the same laptop I am using now to have alpina B3 remotely flashed.

I also have BMWCodingLite and I have tried to connect to the car in the past and have never been able to connect.

When I installed BMWLogger and plugged in the cable it asked to install a com port driver which I did..it said the drivers installed and I restarted and still couldn't connect.

I am using a laptop with windows 7.

You might check in the diagnostic software section of the forum. Might be som more help there. Off hand I don't remember a dcan on the e90. There is dbus on the old er version (2006,2007ish) the others I though got just had put can bus connections. But perhaps I'm remembering wrong. Point is ensure the cable you have can do can bus not just dbus.
