2006 530i
This car has gone into limp mode and I think I've narrowed it down to the ECM...I think. The code it throws is: 2A3F Valvetronic actuator motor power supply.
Now the reason I think it's the ECM is because I've replaced the Valvetronic motor about a year ago. I haven't taken it out again to test it but It seems unlikely to me that it would go out again so soon.
If I back the worm screw out it starts and runs like a champ for a couple of miles and then goes back into limp mode.
I've checked fuses, traced wires etc. and can't think of any other reason other than the Valvetronic just doesn't get juice to keep the valves open and just gradually lets them close down.
Now the real question is:
Some say these units are VIN specific and that I have to take it to a dealer and mortgage my first born male child to get a new one.
Others say that a good rebuilt or used unit can be had relatively inexpensively and work fine.
Another question is: What may I be overlooking?
Oh, and, I'm getting only .32 volts on either side of the motor plug no mater what I do.
Help me! I am once again relying on the kindness of strangers.

Annnnd: Can anyone tell me WHERE the Safety and gateway module is on this car (2006 530i)?
I'm really frustrated with this!

Here's one more document I found on the n52 and Valvetronics. Hope it adds a little light.
