    Tie Downs for Trailering

Going to NY this weekend to get my 1991 850.

Did some basic searching about where to attach the tie downs from the trailer to the car. One of them suggested pulling the jacking point pads and attaching the hooks into the resulting holes

Where are the point on the front?

Where are the points on the back, I plan on crossing the back straps

I will have an assortment of tie down straps

Rent a Uhaul auto carrier. Cheap and perfect. They use straps over the front wheels. 1513357870248.jpg

You can always lash the tie-down through the wheels - use a clean microfiber towel where the strap touches the rim to prevent scuffing.

It's best if you tie down a car with straps through the wheels or over the tires as 72tpik and txgr8white suggested. You want the car to float on its suspension. A car can be twisted, tweeked, or damaged if it's tied down hard.

There should be a tow hook in the tool compartment in the truck that can be threaded into the back or the front bumper to get the car onto trailer. Check your straps often along the way.

    Tie Downs

I went with the holes in the bottom of the front cross member. Wrapped the straps around the rear A-Arm until they got cut thru and I lost two Straps. Finally wrapped it around that rear cross bar that attaches the rear A Arms together.

    Made it thru this

Which part of "strap it through the wheels" made you try to strap over a sharp edge instead?

By the way, the cross member between the arms is not strong enough to keep the car from breaking free (plus it too likes to "eat" tow straps)...

Got this after I got home. I went back and forth on how to do it, Roads were rough and there was lots of bouncing going around which makes me leery of the strap it thru the wheels technique.

Went around the A-Arms because I knew the cross member did not look beefy enough.

    Car is sitting at home

NY to MN? Quite a long haul. Good luck with the project.
