    s38b36 flywheel on m50

    Hi guys,

    I've got a used Tilton 3 plate clutch + flywheel from a E34 M5.
The flywheel just bolts up to the crankshaft but the outer diameter of the starter toothing seems to be a few mm bigger.
Has anybody ever used a s38 flywheel on the m50? Which starter did you guys used? Will it work with the stock m50 starter or did you used the s38 starter motor?

Hi, i got a single mass M30 (E23 728i) flywheel on my M50. Literally it's the same FW as S38.
I have swapped toothed ring from M50 FW to M30 FW and worked like a dream.
M30 FW needs 0.5 or 1mm removal on the lathe to accept M50 toothed ring (which is slightly smaller inner diameter).

Thanks for the offer, but as I'm running a 7.25" triple plate clutch it wouldn't fit and I'm from Austria/Europe

The UUC FW is meant to bolt up to M/S5X and accept the e34 M5 clutch. Maybe look into it. Sounds like it would make the process easier. Also a bunch on eBay cheap.

    Get a m20 unit.

I have one you could make a 7.25 unit into but would probably be best for you to buy local.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead...
I was running an S52 and Getrag 220 with a E28 533/M5 16 lb Flywheel (11221271463) This flywheel came on M88 & S38B35 engines, but is often swapped onto M30B33 engines.
Is this what you were using, Lamis?

It was running great for months, then the clutch came apart. A rotating part hanging off almost completely cut the transmission at the bellhousing in half. I have no idea what parts I selected that caused this. Do you have any resources about this setup?
