Appreciate the answer. Have fun on your journey. 👍🏼
Bottom end is put together as of this weekend.
Totally unnecessary, but I balanced all of the rods and pistons to within a tenth of a gram of each other.
Piston rings were gapped to .020" top, .023" second. All main and rod bearings checked out with the micrometers and snap gauges.
Everything rotates nice and smoothly and I'm super pumped to wrap up the rest of the build!

More progress tonight.
Oil pump is rebuilt and together with the Achilles setup. Cutring and ARPs are on and torqued for their first stage.
I'm happy to be taking my time with this and doing it correctly. I'll take any peace of mind I can!

Engine is back in the car and running! Started right up on the first attempt (sans oil pump priming) and sounded perfect.
I'm very proud to have built something like this from the ground up and done everything I possibly can myself. It allows for a great amount of pride driving it down the road knowing it was all done with my own time and effort (and money).
Compared to the junky M52B28, this thing is awesome. The response with the 3.2L is fantastic, the turbo is almost always ready to go and hauls ass when you're in it. The powerband is wider which makes for a little less contrast between in and out of boost, making it easier to daily drive. 5th gear is entirely usable to move around on the freeway quickly, where before I'd opt to downshift to get into boost.
Probably the biggest pro for me with an essentially brand new motor is the lack of blowby. Even with the rings gapped for power and the aluminum pistons, I did not get a drop of anything in my catch can during my break-in driving. After a week or so I have a bit of condensation collecting in it, which is nothing compared to the venti caramel latte I was getting before.
The southbend stage 5 setup is fantastic with the billet steel flywheel. I will not be going back to an aluminum flywheel I don't think.
My wastegate is still on the 14lb spring and my knock sensors still seem to think there's noises around 4-4.5k at ~200kpa. I have a link g4+ knock block coming this week so I can properly dial in the knock sensors and ignition.

Really awesome to see the forward progression! You should be proud of yourself for built and not bought. Thumbs up!
Nice work! Looking forward to a similar accomplishment myself in the near future. How many pounds of boost do you plan to run once you get the knock sensors dialed in? Sticking on 93 octane?
I will probably go as high as the 93 takes me, but my guess is 16-18psi once I get a bigger intercooler. I'll back my wastegate down to 8lb to start tuning with the right knock equipment then hopefully be back to 14 in a short period of time.
I think it'll all hinge on my IATs, which are not that great currently. I'd like to get a larger intercooler sometime in the future.
