I’ve got one that’s plug and play. $180. PM me.

Pixel problems. That’s the early in-dash CD player. It has known problems with the CD drive.
More importantly, this model lacks a CD Changer connector, so also forget aftermarket mp3/BT/Aux/Apple connectivity.

Now I have an ex-Rover CD43, matches the interior perfectly, but when it fails (now it´s working great) I´ll buy a Clarion FZ102E. Looks great, although style would be my main criterion (that Clarion is a bit short in features)

The previous owner of my car had installed a horrid flashy light stereo into the car, I replaced it with an OEM "business " cassette HU I found in a junk yard for $5. and added a blue tooth box made specifically for that head unit. It plugged into the connector for the CD changer and allows cable free music streaming and phone calls. The car is a convertible and not a daily driver so perfect sound is not a priority over period correct looks. For my needs its perfect and no need to worry about anyone wanting to steal it.
Seriously?
That unit aka the radio, does not have a CDC connector.
What you are showing is the radio loom connector, which is the same for all 17 pins radio models and sound systems. Yes that radio connector has provision for a CDC plug.
Pull that connector off the radio and show the connections on the back of the unit.

Here's a pic of the rear. No connector for CDC
Found out these units were both made by Philips and Blaupunkt. Not sure if any specific problems is brand related.

I just modified my stock unit to work with bluetooth.

Hard to beat the Alpine CDE-HD149BT with a diffuser over the OLED Panel.
Second to none in features, Everything matches perfect and no lightning bolt zigzag patterns.

Alot of info here - https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...-for-1997-318i
I was all for a modded CD43 w/ an AUX jack or Bluetooth until I read the quality will be
put to shame by a $199 headunit and I would be paying double.

It has nice functions, but apart from backlight color, literally nothing else matches with anything else inside the E36.
Hey, you want function over form, which is perfectly fine and all, but just one glance over that pic and no one will disagree that it matches with nothing.
We all want our cake and eat it too, but here it's either form over function or vice versa.
